/Linux - GNU - Open Source News Articles/ - August 18, 2007 - Unicon Systems, the developer of a Linux based platform of choice for mobile applications, has been awarded The LinuxWorld 2007 "Best of Show" Product Excellence Award. The awards were presented by LinuxWorld.com and IDG World Expo executives, and nominees were selected from a pool of over two hundred exhibitors. The award recognizes innovative product applications for the current and future Linux Universe marketplace, as voted on by independent judges and industry experts.
Unicon Systems was awarded the Best of Show Award for its new ground-breaking product - System-on-Display (SoD) - the world's smallest Linux computer with a touch screen - a universal platform for mobile applications.
System-on-Display (SoD) is an ultra-slim Chip-on-Film (CoF) platform based on ARM9 CPU, running full Linux 2.6.19 and attached to the back of a desirably-sized touch screen. This state of the art design includes a motion sensor, full audio stack, high speed USB controller, comprehensive power management and a security chip to protect the design and applications from use-violation and cloning.
The reference design based on SoD is an easily cuztomizable platform with multiple connectivity options including WiFi, high speed USB, GSM, BlueTooth and others. The platform can be mass-produced for a variety of tailor-made applications within many industries at a disruptively low cost.
"Winning 'Best of Show' is a great endorsement of our technology and our belief in the OpenSource revolution. At Unicon Systems we are dedicated to working with our clients across all industries to bring the best of breed products to the market at a fraction of the cost and time necessary to develop in house-based systems," says Marius Kaz, the Unicon Systems CEO. "Right now we are talking to several industry leaders and testing our platform in a variety of applications within the automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, and medical markets."
